Australia Day 2006 Avalon Summer

January 26th 2006 was cloudy with a really big mushy swell. The sky and ocean took on the same characteristics, in colour and texture, and seemed to merge together. Although, the heavy overcast didn't stop the die hard's, doing their duty and, heading to the beach.

This is a beautifully composed soft melting scene with the pastel blues and greens adding to the feeling of stillness in the air. The marbling effect, and muted colours, knock dead the powerful ocean and mask the warmth of the day.

This image pans from North Avalon car park to Little Avalon, with the pool being the main feature pointing you into the photograph. The beach on the right and the whitewater and rocks on the left, keep you in the shot. The photograph also offers a wonderful sweeping rhythm and the drama resulting from the parallels of the rocks and pool, like the ocean, are subdued by the overwhelming feeling of soft embracing calmness.
