Avalon Rune |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Man made or amazing natural feature..... The Avalon Rune can be seen, at its best, when the rising sun cuts across the southern face of Indian Head from mid Spring to mid Summer. In summer the sun is further to the south giving the Rune a more "closed up" look. During afternoon, or on a cloudy days and through winter, the Rune is in shadow and can't be seen and perhaps this explains why it has remained hidden. The closest reference to ancient symbols (A triangle within a circle) suggests fertility, fertile ideas and creativity. Also, within the Rune, are distinct symbols depicting the rising and setting moon, or the moon cycle. The hint is the lesser moon symbol at the apex of the pronounced vertical triangle, the middle of the cycle or the most fertile time. From my investigation the Rune appears to be a symbol of female fertility whether man made or a natural feature or a combination of the two. It's possible that there may have been ancient human intervention and modeling of this amazing natural feature as the Rune just seems too profound and precise, in it's calendar, geometry, alignment and message, to be entirely natural, and perhaps it is a combination of both a geological feature and a archaeological site? :: From Hidden Places - "Avalon Rune" |

This amazing feature is about 20 meters (60 feet) in diameter and can be clearly seen from the Little Avalon surf break and from the adjoining rock platform, at low tide. (As in the photo above) Seeing is believing so take the time to have a look. Wait for a sunny day with a small swell and early morning low tide. Walk south, around past Avalon pool. It’s an easy walk to the southern extremity of the exposed tidal rock shelf or have a more distant look from the begining of the The Serpentine - Take binoculars or a telephoto lens. Put the days and times in your diary now. Mid Spring 7:00am to mid Summer 7:00am and see for yourself. Rune rhymes with Moon (Roon) also Roun. They are ancient symbols on stone, hence the name “Avalon Rune”. Rune stones formed part of a primitive alphabet and were believed to have magical and spiritual significance. Today they provide a key to understanding the lives and beliefs of the ancient people who created them and, have much to teach us about a way of life that was perhaps more intimately connected to the natural world. Professor Alan Short - Geoscience - Sydney University ( an expert on Sydney's coastal geology) and familiar with Indian Head has no previous knowledge of the Rune. From my photographs, he advised, he can't dismiss that the Rune may be more than a natural feature..... The Avalon Rune is possibly one of Australia's most significant archiological sites or the natural worlds most Please feel free to download PDF, the Spring Equinox Artwork (47kb), and the Summer Solstice Artwork (47kb) Plus images and information about The Avalon Rune (357kb).
