"There's something about Avalon" - Something spiritual. It grabs you and holds you
and gets into your blood. And if you look a little deeper, it can be humbling.....

Before dinosaurs walked the earth. When ferns dominated the landscape and amphibians first ventured out from the great oceans - 350 million years ago. A time before Australia broke away from the massive Gwandanaland. When the mountains of Antarctica stood higher than the Himalayas a giant river raged north, for a thousand miles, to deposit the sediment that formed this amazing stonescape. The royal gatekeeper, draped in weathered robes and, with a crown of stone, stands proud... Guarding the entrance to no mans land.

Located at the foot of the shear cliff face of South Avalon Headland...... Beyond this point, waves crash over the rocks and unexpectedly wash across the exposed rock platforms and, further on, the cliff drops straight into deep ocean. If you explore this area, go at low tide on a small swell. Tell someone where you are going and be prepared for some heavy rock hopping. Take care.

"The Gate Keeper", at the foot of the southern headland, looks directly at the "Avalon Rune" on the northern headland of Avalon. As shown here >

FOOT NOTE:

One of the most important tools, for a landscape photographer, is the fall of light. Landscapes are static and, for a photo to work, consideration needs to be given to many things including the basics of balance and composition. An artist, on canvas, can move things around for best advantage. A landscape photographer can't..... So the play of light and shadow are critical. I choose a location and do a light study over an extended period of time. Subsequently, I see things that others may miss.

I have no knowledge of the "Avalon Rune" or "The Gate Keeper" being documented before my personal endeavor and discoveries. My enquiries with people who have lived in Avalon, for 50 years and more, has shed no light.
