The 30 year storm - This is when the ocean really comes alive - Totally wild and totally out of control....

The last time Sydney had weather like this was when cyclone Colin swept down the coast back in 1976. This weekends intense low pressure system will be remembered for 100km winds, extensive coastal flooding and a giant fast moving swell.

Located just south of the Little Avalon surf break, this rush of ocean jumped up out of deep water, exploded onto the rocks and came at me like a freight train. Taking photographs like this are not for the faint hearted. Know the ocean, study the situation, check your escape rout and be prepared to be saturated. If you can pull all that together, it's well worth the adrenalin rush.

To give you an idea of size, the whitewater engulfed rock, center of image, normally stands 20 feet out of the water.
